| Sapphire is a transparent gemstone coming in all colors except red (the red variety being a Ruby), the most popular being deep blue. The blue sapphire is associated with feelings of sympathy and harmony, friendship and loyalty. |

| Sapphires are found in India, Burma, Ceylon, Thailand, Vietnam, Australia, Kasmir, Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania, China, Brazil and the US. |

| Legends and Myths: |
|
Ancient Persians referred to the sapphire as a "Celestial Stone" believing the Earth was resting on a hugh sapphire and the reflection from it is why the sky is blue. During the Middle Ages, sapphires were believed to represent the purity of the soul. Priests wore them as a means of protection from "the temptations of the flesh," and thus able to remain celibate. Kings, queens and other members of the upper nobility wore jewelry containing sapphires to keep them safe and free from envy. It was also believed that the color of a sapphire would darken if the wearer was an unfaithful lover. |
