January Birthstone |

"Garnet" |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The word "garnet" derives from the Latin word "granatus" which mean grain or seed. This name was given to the garnet because of its resemblance to the succulent pomegranate seed. Pomegranate is a bush which produces a red fruit with seeds. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| On the Mohs scale of hardness, garnets range from 7.0 to 7.5. There are no known enhancements for garnet and, although most often seen in red, they come in a variety of hues including reds, yellows, oranges, pinks, greens and violets which is due to different combinations of elements in each particular gem, such as iron, calcium, and manganese. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
