| Diamonds were first discovered in India around 500 B.C. All diamonds aren't colorless. The gem also occurs in hues of pink, red, blue, green, purple, orange, yellow, brown and black and range in intensity from faint to vivid. The more saturated the color, the higher the value. In fact, diamonds sparkling with intense color are rare and may be priced higher than a colorless diamond of equal size. |

| Legends and Myths: |

The ancients believed they were splinters from the sky coming from crystallized lightening or hardened dew drops. Diamonds are considered to be quite powerful. It was believed that diamonds could protect the wearer against poison, phobia, nightmares, witchcraft, arguments, insanity and demonic possession. It was also considered an accurate indicator of infidelity; a diamond placed on the sleeping chest of a wayward lover brought the truth into the light. The Talmud mentions that a high priest would place a diamond on the individual who came before him. If the gem turned dim, the individual was guilty. If the individual was innocent, the gem would shine brighter than before. |
